FIRE ANTSYou may have heard horror stories about the notorious ‘fire ants' attacking people who disturb their mounds, but also humans indoors! On September 21,1999 there were 2 reported cases of fire ants attacking two elderly patients in two separate Mississippi nursing homes. One of the victims dies just five days after being attacked with the other dying 13 months later. Fire ants have consumed most of the native black ant population in the South East but have also started appearing in the Western States according to recent articles. Fire ants kill invertebrates as their primary food source but are strong enough and deadly enough to kill farm animals when no other food source is available. Their stings can cause medical complications which range from mild irritation to death from allergic reaction. So, as you can imagine, having these kind of ants in your home is something you just don't want...full stop! You need a good fire ant killer, as killing fire ants can be a risky and dangerous business. Out of ten specific reported indoor attacks, 4 of the patients didn't suffer any kind of clinical complications but a 5-year old baby who was attacked in a crip fell into a coma. The baby thankfully lived but in another case a developmentally delayed 2-year old suffered severe cornea damage after being attacked in the eyes by the insects. SOME WARNINGS ABOUT FIRE ANTS
